I'm thinking about a proposal, and one of the ideas that I'm thinking about presenting on is similarities between Harry Potter and Shakespeare. Similar themes, characters, allusions, etc. I guess I could do it as a lecture, but if anyone else is really interested in this and might want to be a panel with me, please let me know!

I'm just starting to do some research and look into it a bit more. But in general I'm thinking about character comparisons (example: Benedick and Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing compared to the Ron/Hermione relationship), similar themes (how the ideas of love and death are treated), the use of ghosts, etc.

I had an idea. Maybe you could put something in about A Midsummer Night's Dream and all the love spells, and how love potions caused so much trouble in the books.
Have you read The Tempest? Prospero is easy to compare to somebody since he's a wizard.

Thanks Nicole! I'm familiar with both plays and those are both really good ideas. I could definitely involve those in some way.

Ooh, I'd love to be on the panel if you have room. I'm a Shakespeare scholar (2 English degrees) and I've written like a dozen papers on HP. I might take the angle of making choices (Macbeth and Hamlet make the bad ones and Harry makes good ones on similar issues like fate and forgiveness and action).
Let mme know.
