I just looked over at the schedule, and it says that the Welcoming feast will be a Tex-Mex buffet? I have to admit, when I think Harry Potter and food, Tex-Mex is the last thing that comes to mind. Also, the feast at Prophecy sounded more like a nice dinner with waiters. Is there any way we can find out more about this buffet/feast? Particularly before the ticket price changes and August 31st? If it's not really themed, and is just going to be a Mexican buffet, it might be better to just get day passes for Fri and Sat instead of the 4 day admission, save $30 and go to a restaurant in Dallas for cheaper.

Also, when you say Afternoon Tea, is this going to be like a full afternoon tea with a pot of tea per person (with choices), tea sandwiches, scones, and tea cakes? It'd be really good if we could get more info on these before we have to put down the money for them in 2 weeks.

Hi there,

Yes indeed, the Welcoming Feast will include a Tex-Mex buffet so Portus attendees can enjoy a "Taste of Texas". The advantage of the buffet is that you can eat as much as you care to and choose what you like. The Leaving Feast will include a traditional brunch buffet.

Don't forget that the full registration includes formal and informal programming that will take place on Thursday and Sunday. While there is the day pass option for Friday and Saturday, you will be missing out on access to the Common Room, Art Gallery, Vendor Room, as well as participation in the Level 9 Roundtables on Thursday, and will also miss the Auction on Sunday. We will also be adding more programming to all four days as our guests are confirmed, so please keep watching the website.

When you think about it, at the current price, you're getting two buffet meals for $30 more than the price of the day passes, plus any and all additional programming offered those days.

Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up! I guess I'll stick with the 4 day then.

I think I just got the image of those huge Hogwarts Feasts in my head when I read "Welcoming Feast." Ahh, if only. But again, something like that would be a lot more expensive. :)

Any details on the Afternoon Teas?

The Afternoon Teas will include the following:

Tea Sandwiches
Scones with Clotted Cream, Marmalade and Preserves
Whole Fresh Strawberries
French Pastries and Macaroons
Selection of Premium Teas and Coffee

The teas will be a great opportunity to take an hour to sit down and chat with other fans while enjoying traditional English tea. :)

I like the idea of a buffet much better than what we had at Prophecy. You only had two choices, beef or vegetarian and while the service was very good and the food was good it ws not at all what I would have wanted and I left hungry. Buffet gives you much more choice and it is a lot more reasonably priced than Prophecy this way. I'm loving it. :) :D

My concern wasn't that it was a buffet, but rather that it would be all Tex-Mex. Or is it an overall general buffet that has some Tex-Mex in it? I'm just worried how my tummy will do if I eat a big Mexican meal. I love Mexican food. It does not love me. TMI, I know! But I'm still trying to get the buffet thing figured out.
