CHRIS! *hugs*

Yay :) She has arrived. I can't wait to see you again at Portus.

(Although I've had a few second thoughts about Portus itself, because the big Wizard Rock bands might only be at Terminus, hmm.)

because the big Wizard Rock bands might only be at Terminus, hmm.

Do you have confirmation of this? Will they be at Terminus? I am not aware that that had been announced. There is the Wrock thing, but I haven't heard about any other confirmed bookings. Of course, you did use "might". :D

Edit: Ah, DatM are coming....not sure if it is for another event or their Wizard Night event though. And A posted that they're working on a concert. Good for them. Really. I hope that everyone 'behaves' and the attendees have a blast. I know, I will always plug Portus, but if the people who go to either are happy, that's the point. Maybe I'm just too old, but I don't get the interest in them, but whatever rocks your boat. :) I would still wait to see what Portus puts together though, would hate to see you miss a chance to figure out how your camera works. :P

Lol. I know of one confirmed booking, and I know they're looking into getting more. From the email I got, I think it's pretty clear they're trying to do something similar to the concert at Prophecy. An announcement should come before the next time their prices go up.

Well, well, well...

Hello Badger Butt! (I'm assuming this is the same Badger Butt that beat us all at the Prophecy Wizard's Duel with a mere chop stick?)

Peeves here, checking it out. Already set for next year (currently stocking up on balloons...:p ).

Looking forward to beating YOU next time!

Well *I'm* very seriously considering doing both anyway. But there's this HP cruise too (wrocktheboat.com) so... not sure.

Are you thinking about going on the cruise too? It sounds like a cool idea. Not sure that we'll go as it's out of New Orleans and they need to reserve pretty quick. Maybe if we could wait a few months before deciding...

500 HP fans 'trapped' on a boat for 5 days? What could be funner than that??? :D

David

I'm thinking of going to two of: Terminus, Portus and the cruise. I just can't decide which two.

I think there will be opportunity to reserve later really, but the more people they get this week the better. They need to get as many deposits as possible for this chunk of rooms.

One thing to note though is that the deposit isn't that big and half of it is refundable if you pull out. So you don't have to be 100% certain to go for it.

It's not all refundable if you pullout within a given time frame? I know the cruise portion is usually refundable if you drop out within, say, 90 days before the cruise (varies by cruise line and length of cruise), but I don't know what they're charging for the HP part of it. The cruise itself goes for $279 (cheapest cabin, per person, before taxes, etc...). I would guess they're going non-profit, but I didn't see that on the site. It sounds like a really cool idea. I don't think we can go (moving before the end of the year and will be short of cash for a bit and Dallas is my splurge for the year), but it would be nice that if this one works out well they'll plan more. (Except have them leave from a Central FL port! LOL)

Only half of the *deposit* is refundable.

Are deposits for cruises normally refundable then? That surprises me. The term deposit almost implies non-refundable to me.

It's non-profit, yes. I don't believe that's before tax though... maybe I'm wrong. What taxes? Port taxes are definitely included in that price if that's what you mean.

She hopes to do it every year if it works out, so yeah. :)

yeah i might be doing both. who knows, it's too early to say for sure for me. the cruise idea does seem cool!

Non-profit as in how they set up the group. Maybe it's such that they don't need to anything for tax purposes. Not a tax lawyer. :D

I am taking a cruise soon with Royal Caribbean. They require a deposit and full payment 90 days out for a 9-night cruise. However, they will refund the deposit if you cancel prior to 90 days. Now, the group may require some fee and Carnival may have a completely different policy. I would be sure on that and check in with travel insurance, not just for while in Mexico or on the ship if there is a problem, but also to reimburse for certain reasons if a person couldn't go.

Travel insurance is an issue, though that doesn't normally cover for change of mind of course. I think she mentioned that that was included too, but I can't swear by it.

But yeah, it sounds like Carnival has a different policy. That said, the non-refundable part of the deposit is pretty small really.

I am attending both Terminus and Portus. This is what was announced by Terminus a few weeks ago for their Wrock stuff.

Wednesday, August 6, 2008
12 noon – midnight
Hilton Chicago Hotel
Cost: $20 per person.

In 2000, the Switchblade Kittens rocked the Harry Potter fan community with “Ode to Harry.” In 2002, Harry and the Potters began playing libraries around the country. In 2007, more than 200 bands reimagined Harry Potter on the electric guitar, the piano, even the hammered dulcimer – a phenomenon known as “wizard rock.” And in 2008, in a special pre-conference event, Terminus will present Wrock Chicago, the largest wizard rock concert in the history of the Harry Potter fandom!

Wrock Chicago will feature 25 bands over three stages of fantastic wizarding music, celebrating both the exceptional creativity of the bands themselves and the inspiration of their imagination: the Harry Potter series. The concert will start at noon and won’t finish until midnight, and many of the bands will have merchandise available for purchase for anyone looking for a CD or a t-shirt for a favorite band or two.

Tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime event are currently only available to attendees of Terminus, though we anticipate making them available to the public sometime in the spring of 2008 if we have any remaining capacity. The cost is $20 per ticket, which includes access to all three stages and all 25 bands. Please note that the event’s schedule includes 20 bands performing over two stages in the afternoon, two hours off in the evening so attendees can have dinner on their own, and then five hours of our headliners on a third stage in a room designed to accommodate all ticketholders.

We hope you’ll join us for this historic event. We’re going to wrock Chicago – and we hope you are, too!

Headliners:
Draco and the Malfoys
Harry and the Potters
The Remus Lupins
The Switchblade Kittens
The Whomping Willows

Also featuring:
The Butterbeer Experience
Catchlove
Celestial Warmbottom
The Chocolate Frogs
The Cruciatus Curse
Danny Dementor
Ginny and the Heartbreakers
Gred and Forge
The Gringotts Grrls
The Hermione Crookshanks Experience
The Hinky Punks
Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills
Lord Voldi and the Dark Marks
The Moaning Myrtles
The Mudbloods
The Parselmouths
