So I only recently got interested in Wrock. While looking at all the HP stuff at Borders during the summer, my friend and I came across a Harry and the Potters CD. We bought it, and I really loved the clever lyrics.

I've been checking out a lot of the myspace music pages. So far I really like The Moaning Myrtles, Oliver Boyd and the Rembralls, and the Whomping Willows.

Which ones do you all like?

Oliver Boyd has got to be my absolute favorite. I have been going around MySpace and checking out who has free downloads and downloading for my iPod. I have reveiwed the bands I have seen live on my MySpace page.

I love Oliver Boyd...his lyrics, his style...etc are all great. I also like the Remus Lupins, who have great style. They will be playing in LA on Friday for anyone in SoCal.

The Parcelmouths are a must see, theri stage show is great...Whomping is fun and so is Hermione Crookshanks.

I love MoM...don't have their CD yet and have not seen them live, but they are fun.;)

Check out the wizrocklopdia (real name) it has the list of all the bands. I personally like the bigger ones Whomping Willows, Remus Lupins, Draco and the Malfoys, not a big fan of Harry and the Poter though. If I have more free time I will listen to Oliver Boyd, have heard good things about him.

Also like the Moaning myrtles, and Ginny and the Heartbreakers.

Oh I can't believe I am forgiving the Parselmouths and Hermione Crookshanks.

Excellent, thank you. I wish I could afford the subscription- I know it's not much, but in order to actually get to Portus I can't spend any extra money so I have it all for travelling and whatnot. That's why I need to find the free stuff ;-)

Thanks for the link Goldenbear, I think I will sign up for that. I love the band Ginny and the Heartbreakers, and I am happy to find a place where I can get a cd from them.

The Remus Lupins is by far my favourite. To me Alex has the perfect mix of catchyness/fun and quality.

Bands like Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys I enjoy for the former, the likes of Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls and The Weasel King for the latter.

There are so many good ones out there though. I love Wizard Rock.

Thanks for naming all the bands that have their music downloadable. I love when wrock bands do that because I never have money to buy cds. I've never actually heard anything from any of the aforementioned wrockers so I'm gonna have to go give them a listen.

Matt posted this ot the MySpace bulletin...there the Cheap Rent CD is worth checking out for only $4.00 and the free downloads by the Hinky Punks...

;)

Hey everyone!

I'm pleased to announce the release of the first installment of the Cheap Rent House Party Series! The series will consist of several live recordings from Cheap Rent house parties past and present, and all proceeds from sales will be donated to First Book, an international organization that helps provide poor children with new books. Volume One features a stunning acoustic performance by Three Ring Records recording artist Tom Thumb. It was recorded in April 2006 and it's beautiful, and it features some amazing moments of "crowd participation" as well. Once again, we're providing you with an opportunity to receive something awesome in return for your donation to a worthy cause. The CD is just $4 for residents of the US and Canada, $6 for everyone else. Thanks!

Also, please check out the updated Cheap Rent profile, as many of our wizard rock partners have released new records in the past few months, including the Hermione Crookshanks Experience, the Moaning Myrtles, How Airplanes Fly and Justin Finch-Fletchley!

Also, our friend and colleague Patrick of the Hinky Punks has been doing some amazing things lately. In particular, he's made ALL of his music available for free download through the band's forum, which can be found at www.thehinkypunksforum.com. Check it out!

Love,
Matt

$4? I'll have to look into that.

And thanks for the info. Right now I'm really liking The Weasel King. That song "Red Hair" is awesome.

I really like Catchlove, and the Remus lupins. Catchlove is a jazzy-technoish sound that is different than the other wrock bands.

Oh, you have to listen to Draco and the Malfoys, Ministry of Magic, Tom Riddle and Friends, The Quaffle Kids, The Weasel King, haha, they're really all awesome :D

If you have not heard, For Jo, by Riddle, it is awesome. I agree, Catchlove is a very jazzy tune...that is very original...they are really good.

I love The Remus Lupins because Alex Carpenter is pretty good at what he does...and his songs are really fun/danceable. The Whomping Willows have hilarious tunes too. I've just started hearing the smaller bands (I just got into wrocking a few weeks ago, believe it or not). I think Lonesome Norberta is a really great vocalist. The Mudbloods are pretty good too...and they'll be at Portus, yay!

I just heard that Terminus will be having a big wrock concert....Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Remus Lupins, the Whomping Willows, The Switchblade Kittens, and many more.
I really hope that some of those bands play at Portus too. I love the other bands too, but I probably won't get a chance to hear these bigger ones outside of Portus (I won't be at Terminus), so it would be great if at least one of them played there!

TheSilverDoe
10-03-2007, 06:10 PM
Yeah, I heard that about Terminus too. I would love to see all those bands.

I've listened to the samples of the ones that are announced to be at Portus. I really like the Moaning Myrtles. The Owl Post is pretty good, and so is Catchlove, though it's not really my style of music. Still, it's HP, so it's good. And actually, looking at the bands announced, I don't think I've listened to The Mudbloods yet. So I'll have to check them out.

Grytherin
10-04-2007, 02:14 AM
Yeah, there's gonna be 25 Wrock bands playing a 12 hour concert at Terminus. It'd be awesome to go there too, but that's probably not gonna happen, lol.

Wow, a Wrock Christmas CD! I am definitely preordering that. It says it will be shipped mid-November... I just can't decide if I should have it shipped to school or home. I guess I'll send it home because I'll be home for Thanksgiving... if for some reason it comes after that, I'll have to have my parents mail it to me immediately!

My favorite has to be Draco and the Malfoys!! I think that their lyrics are quite clever! Although, Expectro Patronum by Remus and the Lupins is an Awesome Wrock song! Overall, I have to go with DatM!! I have a whole DatM outfit planned for Wrock Chicago!

SO many bands have downloads. Some favorites, complete with downloads:

The Mudbloods (http://www.myspace.com/mudbloods)
The Whomping Willows (http://www.myspace.com/thewhompingwillows)
The Weasel King (http://www.myspace.com/theweaselkingmusic)
Talons & Tea Leaves (http://www.myspace.com/talonsandtealeaves)
Romilda Vane & the Chocolate Cauldrons (http://www.myspace.com/krummusic)
The Quaffle Kids (http://www.myspace.com/thequafflekids)

And please, please, please, check out the tune from the Basilisk In Your Pasta (http://www.myspace.com/thebasiliskinyourpasta). It's amazing.

Anyway, there are so many more bands that are amazing. I can suggest some if you're into a certain genre! Also, I think the best place to discover new wrock is the Wizrocklopedia, but I admit to being biased ;)

My favorite Wrock bands include:
The Remus Lupins (Squee! Alex!)
The Whomping Willows (I've seen him in concert!)
The Moaning Myrtles (I'm SOOO glad they're coming!!!)
Oliver Bloyd and the Rememberals (I'm singing 'End of an Era' for my chorus's end of the year concert! Absolutly Amazing!)
Harry and the Potters (They were the first Wrock band I saw live)
And I'm gaining TONS by the minute! or by the month I should say (I'm a Wizard Rock EP of the Month club member) I honestly can not say that I've ever seen a BAD Wrock band. They all...well..ROCK!
I am also a VERY frequent visitor to wizrocklopedia!!!

I just listened to the CD today. My favorite songs:

-Happy Christmas Day (Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls)
-An Epic Christmas Tale, Chapter One: How the Thestrals Saved Christmas (The Mudbloods)
-The Twelve Days of Wizard Christmas (Gred and Forge)

There are some very good ones on there, some of them are very creative.
