So, it's a masquerade ball, right? What kinda stuff you guys gonna wear? Actual traditional masquerade costumes? Prom/formal type wear? Dress robes? I'd like to know what everyone is planning (or a rough idea at least) so I don't show up looking like a complete goober.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. I know Balls are no new thing to the conferences, but as this is my first conference...it's all new to me. I was thinking of getting a dress with a matching masquerade mask...

I think a pretty mask would be fun! Add to the mystery.
I, like u, am new to this. From the pictures I"ve seen, everyone seems to just wear prom stuff. I'd like to see everyone in real masquerade fashion!!!

Yea, I've seen a lot of prom-esque stuff, too. My aim is to not spend much money on the dress, so I'll probably find something cute at a thrift store or something. It's surprising what you can discover there sometimes.

Oh yeah, definately. With a little imagination you can make a gorgeous gown out of practically nothing. Think of Miss Scarlett O'Hara w/ her mother's draperies...classic!!!

And that was a gorgeous green velvet dress when she was done - beautiful! I'm new to the whole HP con thing too and was wondering the same as everyone else in terms of what to wear. Hopefully someone who has been before can help us out!

Hi everyone,
What you wear to the Ball is completely up to you! You might spot someone in full costume, evening wear, or casual jeans and a tshirt. You can see some pictures of the ball from Prophecy here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQSayd6Y5ss.

Right now I'm thinking about wearing the dress that I wore to my high school senior banquet. It's not quite as fancy as a prom dress. And it's kinda sparkly and glittery, which makes me think of magic lol.

At the last ball many people wore nice prom-esque dresswear. Some wore formal robes and still others had ideas od thier own. However everyone did look nice and there were no individuals who looked too sloppy. If your charactor is a bum he should wear the nicest tatters he or she has.

I'll probably make a nice colorful extravagant Luna-ish ballgown for both my prom and the ball =]
And I'll buy/make a matching mask. I've already looked around on the internet and I've seen some pretty awesome (and expensive!) ones.

I've already got a bit of a start on this! At Prophecy I wore a white and red really poofy ball gown. I saw it in a store and it was much cheaper than I had thought so I had to have it for the ball. But that was just a ball, and this one is a masquerade! I have the material to make a Gryffindor robes-esque dress, and I'm going to make a matching mask.

At Phoenix Rising, there was everything from prom formals to HP costumes to period clothing to latex BDSM fetish clothing! I'm taking the lazy route this year. I don't want to waer the same dress I did to Phoenix Rising, so I am wearing my dementor costume to the ball. I don't have to sew a stitch and it already has a mask! :D

I'm kinda on the fence here too, because I wonder- as a cosplayer I'm gonna essentially be in disguise for most of the con as my costume totally changes how I look. So I'm thinkin, the most likely way for me and other cosplayers to to be in disguise for the masquerade ball would actually be going as our 'normal' self... Idk, either way I have no shortage of formal attire so whatever I decide, I'll be covered.

Ive bought a new black dress and a mask, its not very comfortable so I dont know how long I'l keep it on. Im talking about the mask not the dress...lol. Thought I'd clear that up. Just need a new pair of shoes.

Just out of curiosity... are we allowed to wear jeans?

this is my first HP con and I have fallen in love with costume... I will probably look like Draco's great grandma in my silver satin gown, but, hey, if not now, when?
;)
I am so glad to see others getting dolled up for the event!
