View Full Version : Would it be strange...

... if someone came alone? My daughter is too young (12) and anyone who would want to come with me can't afford it, so I'll be coming on my own. Is this common? Or is it very unusual? I'd really like to come, but I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb hanging around by myself...

Thanks!

Don't worry - there are many folks who come on their own! You'll meet people very quickly. You can also post in our Beyond the Conference (http://www.hpef.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12) forum to get to know other attendees before you arrive.

I didn't know anyone when I hopped on a plane to Vegas last August. I'm so glad that I ended up going though, because I've met so many brilliant and wonderful people through these events!

Everyone is super friendly, so I'm sure you'll fit right in! :D

Great, thanks! I figured not everyone went with someone, but I'm glad I asked!

I went alone to Lumos and made so many friends, that I still keep in touch with from around the world, so starting from scratch isn't bad at all. Besides, you already know you have one HUGE common intrest with everyone else. All you have to do is walk up and say, "Do you think Snape is evil?" and you'll meet a ton of people willing to talk to you. However if you do ask that now that the 7th book is out, you may not be as welcomed...

I'll be going alone too so I'm looking forward to getting to know some people. I think it might feel a little out of my comfort zone but sometimes you need to do that.

I went to Prophecy alone, all the way from England. It was the best few days of my life! I made loads of friends. And I'm very shy too. Potter fans are amazing.

I'd already talked to quite a few people online though, to be fair. So that's worth doing. The forums only really seem to get going later than this- things are rather quiet at the moment..

I went to Lumos and Prophecy alone and both were great fun. It'll be an adventure, and you'll come back with lots of fond memories and new friends.

coming alone isnt bad at all. Finding a room to share with someone is also a plus, then you meet them and can hang out with them too. At prophecy there were a lot of people who came alone and ended up meeting people they connected with. Its fun to go alone too, you meet people you normally wouldnt have met if you had come with a friend or something, its not bad, and its definitly worth it, you dont want to miss this :)

I have gone to three cons and I find that even when people are in groups, there is always room for one more...and you will find kindred spirits all over the con...and fun to be had no matter what...HP Fandom is the BEST!!!;) ;)

You're not the only one! I'm single, 41, from KY... and I'm coming alone... my first HP con, and I am sooo looking forward to it, but nervous about not knowing anyone who's attending. PM me if you want a gal pal to meet up with.
